Softball Fielding Drill: Drop Step and Shoe String

  

 

Drop Step Drill:

Line up players. One player at a time should face coach. When coach says go have player take a drop step in one direction and begin running in that direction (back left or back right). When coach holds up the ball the player should switch direction. Coach should throw the ball in that direction and player should be able to adjust and make the catch.

Shoe String Drill:

Line up players in the outfield. Throw the ball in the air, short of the player whose turn it is. Player should charge in towards the ball and play it off a short up, catching the ball down by their "shoe strings."
